At 0912 hours, the first alarm consisting of Companies 11, 10, 13, 85 & 560 were dispatched to 711 Las Vegas Drive for a report of smoke pushing from the eves. Medic 560-1 was on scene reporting a working fire. Assistant 11 arrived just after and also confirmed a working fire with heavy smoke pushing from all sides of the house. Asst 11 assumed command. Engine 11-1 arrived with a crew of 4 and went in service with a 1 3/4 inch hand line. Crew forced entry and was met with heavy smoke with zero visibility. Crew made quick work locating the fire in the kitchen and spread to the 2nd division. A secondary line was stretched by the Engine 13 crew and the roof was opened and home laddered by the Ladder 10 crew. Co 85 provided RIT. EMS attempted to help resuscitate a dog that was pulled from the home in the early stages of the fire. Even with the efforts given, the dog and cat were deceased. A 2nd alarm was transmitted bringing Engines 32 & 37 along with Ladder 12 for manpower. The fire was placed under control w/ overhaul @ 0959 hours. The Muhlenberg Twp Fire Marshal’s office conducted an investigation and we were then cleared from the scene @ 1128 hours. Berks Fire 7 Water were on scene to secure the home.
