November 4th 1910, the Temple Fire Company was established to provide fire protection to the citizens of the Temple Borough and to help with surrounding communities. In 1998, the Temple Borough was merged into the Muhlenberg Twp which accepted the Temple Fire Company to join the Goodwill Fire Company as their primary fire departments. Both organizations maintained their own identities. For the last several months, the Muhlenberg Twp Commissioners have decided it was time to merge both companies together and create one department. After several meetings and work to be accomplished, the scheduled date is March 1st, 2020 when the “Muhlenberg Township Fire & Rescue” will become the newly formed fire service for Muhlenberg Twp.
Key Points to know:
1. A part time fire chief was hired to oversee the fire department. Larry Moyer is our Twp Fire Chief.
2. All three stations will continue to operate as they have.
Headquarters (Temple)
Station #1 (Hyde Park)
Station #2 (Riverview Park/Tuckerton)
3. All members are one. They will be able to respond from any station in Muhlenberg Twp.
4. The command structure was established with:
Fire Chief
(3) 1st Deputy Chiefs
(3) 2nd Deputy Chiefs
(3) Captains
(3) Lieutenants
This was not an easy thing to process at the beginning of this as some members hearts are with their respective stations. As we continue to move closer and closer, we must admit it is getting pretty exciting. We are looking forward to the start date and go live and to work as one to provide protection to our citizens.
